We are pleased to announce this year’s entertainment for On Top of Success, on October 14, 2011, will be provided by the the chamber pop group from Brooklyn, Mappa Mundi.
The members of Mappa Mundi all washed ashore one day on this lush and lonely island, each one having followed a very different map toward a new verdant world. Steeling nerve and body against the elements, wild beasts, and blood thirsty cannibals, they continue to cast out into the sea with the strains of their music, hoping one day to be found.
Adam Levine (Voice, Trumpet, Ukulele, Guitar, Keyboard) studied composition, performance and improvisation (orchestral/chamber music, jazz, and rock). As a trumpet player he’s been a regular fixture of New York’s New Music scene as well as played with numerous avant-garde and rock groups. In 2008, Mappa Mundi was formed to play Adam’s original Chamber Pop compositions.
Suzanne Lipkin (Violin) started playing the violin twenty years ago when she took a flyer home from school. She also plays regularly with Huxley Vertical Cabaret Nouveau, and is principal second violin of the New York Symphonic Arts Ensemble.
Matthew Moore (Drums) is a Brooklyn-based drummer who has been performing in various rock and jazz groups in New York and Milwaukee, WI for more than twenty years. He has studied with Scott Wenzel at the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music and with Chico Hamilton, Charli Persip and Andrew Cyrille at the New School University (all jazz legends). Currently, Matthew performs in New York with Otis Pike Western Swing and the Atomic Grind Show.
Mike Darnell (Bass) played in school orchestras and basement rock bands while growing up in Wisconsin, and continued his formal training in the University of Wisconsin Symphony Orchestra. Jason Sagebiel (Guitar, Ud) is a composer, guitarist, ‘udist, and conductor in the NYC area. He plays in public and teaches in private. Jason has a master’s degree in classical guitar, and composition but prefers to play live music in bars to concert halls.
